It is the first time the Centre for Handicapped organized the World Disabled Day on 3rd December 2005 at the Bogambara Stadium – Kandy. The main objectives of the event was to bring out the talents of disables, to promote the disability services in Kandy, to create awareness on disabled and the support organizations, to make barrier free environment for disables, to educate the rights of disables in society and to form a consortium for disabled organizations. Local disabled organizations like Mahinda Vidyalaya, Women’s Developments Centre (WDC), Vocational Training Centre (VTC), National Institute of the Care of Paraplegic Sri Lanka (NIPS) and Digana Rehabilitation Hospital were directly and actively involved.
A range of sub committees were formed by the CFH and exhibitions, sports events, cultural activities etc. took place on this day. This event was successfully concluded with the assistance and support extended by the Motivation (UK based NGO), Social Service Department, Rotary Club of Kandy, Rotaract Club of Katugastota, Inner Wheel Club of Katugastota, Sun Match Co. Ltd, Lions Club of Colombo Millennium District 306 A 1, Ceylinco Co. Ltd, other private organizations and individual donors who helped with cash and kind.

An opening ceremony was organized at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy, presided over by His Worship the Mayor of Kandy Mr. Kesara Senanayake and the Board of Directors of Centre for Handicapped.

A procession of approx. 500 people with disabilities marched in the Kandy City. Small banners/slogans and statements were raised during the procession to promote rights and public awareness on disability.

The exhibition involving three organizations display products made by people with disabilities as well as products of CFH

An interesting cultural event was performed by the person with disabilities which was full of fun.

There were events such as 100 M, 200 M, Javelin Throw, Put Shot, Wheel Chair Races, etc. which were arranged accordingly for the disables
