Services

Centre for Handicapped offers services like Physiotherapy before and after fitment of Prostheses. The Centre employs trained Rehabilitation therapy assistants working under the guidance of a qualified expatriate Physiotherapist. The department is well equipped with manual exercise facilities.

The main services provided by the physiotherapy department are:

 

  • Joint screening: - Done by a team of Prosthetists & Orthotists along with Physiotherapists.
  • Assessment:- The detailed assessment is done in the physiotherapy department for setting short term and long term goals to    achieve the functional independence of the disable.
  • Counseling: - Basic counseling explains the process of prosthetic fitting and rehabilitation and also to motivate them to live life as normal.
  • Prescription: - The final prescription has made based on the assessment and patient requirement.
  • Pre Prosthetic Physiotherapy care: - Stump preparation is done for exact fitting of prosthesis and also Oedema, Neuroma, contractures, tightness, muscle weaknesses etc. complications are treated during the period.
  • Prosthetic physiotherapy care: - Different kinds of balancing and weight shifting exercises are done during fitment of prosthesis.
  • Post prosthetic care: - We provide post prosthetic care to solve different gait deviation problems.
  • Gait training: - The gait training starts between parallel bars and proceeds to advance gait training
    such as :
    1. Walking on plane surfaces
    2. Walking on uneven terrain
    3. Walking up and down steps
    4. Walking up and down ramps
    5. Walking on hanging bridges for balancing 
    6. Walking in mud etc

 

  • Wheelchair assessment: - Persons who need wheelchairs are thoroughly assessed for the appropriate custom made wheelchair.
  • Prescription of Wheelchairs: - The prescription for wheelchairs is made according to strength and need of the individual.
  • Wheelchair training: - We provide proper training about how to use the wheelchair effectively. The wheelchair users are trained about how to manage pressure sores, transfer and safety measures etc.
  • Therapy for other neuromuscular disorders:- The physiotherapy department also treat the other neuromuscular disorders like Cerebral palsy, Post Polio, Polio Residual Paralysis etc.
  • Catering and lodging: - The Centre provides free catering and lodging facilities and have separate male and female dormitories with entertainments .
