To be a Centre of excellence in the provision of artificial limbs and rehabilitation services to persons who need them.

To enable persons who are physically handicapped irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, cast or status to lead near normal lives.


  1. To rehabilitate the physically challenged in all possible ways and in this connection to manufacture, repair, maintain, fabricate, assemble, alter, design and develop all types of rehabilitation devices.

  2. To create a congenial atmosphere for the development of skills of the physically and otherwise challenged and aid in their well being.

  3. To establish training Centers and provide training in all avenues for the betterment and well being of the physically and otherwise challenged.

  4. To establish and provide advisory and consultancy services including awareness programs both to members and others.

  5. To advise and make representations to relevant authorities with a view to promoting adequate legislation to ensure the rights of otherwise abled persons.


When the Centre was functioning in a small area of space, the late Chairman Rev. Cannon Rathnayake took the initiative to obtain the lease of land through the late president the Hon. Ranasinghe Premadasa. Subsequently, the late Chairman Mr. T. R. R. Rajan and Mr. Shamil Pieris were able to generate funds from the Rotary Movement and other foreign funding agencies including the Royal Norwegian Government through NORAD, USAID etc. to construct a new building and purchase vital equipment for the manufacturing of artificial limbs.

  • The Physiotherapy unit employs four Rehabilitation Therapy Assistants guided by a qualified expatriate Physiotherapist.

  • The Prosthetic and Orthotic unit employs four Bench Technicians, two Practitioner Assistants and three qualified category II Prosthetist and Orthotist.

  • The General office consists of five administrative staff members ( Manager, Accountant, PR Officer & two Clerks) and a Storekeeper.
